About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s West Loop, The Loyalist is an exceptional New American restaurant and cocktail bar that masterfully marries elevated dining with a cozy, intimate atmosphere. This basement gem is an ode to thoughtful sourcing and refined flavors, creating an inviting environment that feels both sophisticated and comfortably familiar.

The menu at The Loyalist is a carefully curated celebration of bold, nuanced New American cuisine with French-inspired touches. Their legendary Loyalist Original Burger stands out as a must-try—a perfectly juicy, medium-rare patty nestled in a pillow-soft bun, complemented by a signature burger sauce and the irresistibly tangy dill pickle brine that guests rave about. Beyond the burger, the French Onion Soup is a comforting revelation, boasting a rich broth crowned with pâte à choux and melted hornkuhkäse cheese that oozes warmth in every bite.

For those looking to explore, appetizers such as the Escargot Tart—featuring delicate braised escargot and earthy mushroom duxelle atop buttery puff pastry—and the Trume Deviled Eggs offer layers of flavor that tease and satisfy simultaneously. The Half Chicken, roasted on sourdough and accented by smoked dates and decadent foie gras butter, is a masterclass in roasting technique and flavor balance, while seafood lovers will delight in the Ocean Trout à la Grenobloise, accented with bright Meyer lemon and buttery brown butter sauce.

Desserts at The Loyalist provide a sweet finish that lingers—a warm Chocolate Profiteroles drizzled with mocha chocolate sauce alongside miso vanilla ice cream creates a perfect harmony of bitter, sweet, and creamy textures. The Hazelnut Paris Brest and the Baba au Rhum with crème anglaise offer a delicate European flair that rounds out a truly memorable meal.

Beyond the food, The Loyalist excels as a cocktail bar with drinks crafted to match the food’s thoughtful preparation. Their Old Fashioneds are generous and nuanced, perfect for sipping in the dimly lit, art-adorned dining room where warm lighting casts a romantic, inviting glow. Reviewers consistently praise the attentive, friendly service that enhances the overall experience without ever feeling overbearing.

What truly makes The Loyalist stand apart is the seamless blend of quality and ambiance. Whether you’re settling in for a date night, catching up with friends, or celebrating a special occasion in their intimate event space, the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance of comfort and class. The understated elegance and warm mood lighting create a space where every meal feels special.

Guests frequently commend the farm-to-table philosophy, with every ingredient tasting fresh and thoughtfully sourced—a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to authenticity and flavor integrity. While some note that pricing reflects the quality and care put into the dishes, many agree that the experience is undeniably worth it, making The Loyalist a worthy destination for those who appreciate top-tier New American cuisine paired with creative cocktails in a relaxed yet refined setting.

Atmosphere is very nice, intimate and small but still spacious. Food is amazing. We ordered french onion soup, salad, and OG cheeseburger. Excellent. Server was very attentive and friendly.

I know their sister restaurant has the Michelin, but seriously, this place is just amazing and deserves a nod. Maybe some of the best burgers around (yes, plural, because all their burgers are awesome). Any egg dish they have with caviar is incredible. Drinks are unique and generous. Service is top top top notch. Comfortable and cozy. Price will get ya but it is absolutely worth it.

The Loyalist is a fantastic local gem that truly embraces the farm-to-table philosophy . Every ingredient feels fresh and thoughtfully sourced, which really shines through in the flavors. The ambiance is warm and inviting — think dimly lit rooms with a cozy, modern vibe . The lighting sets the mood just right, and the artwork on the walls adds a touch of elegance. The food? Absolutely amazing! Especially the burgers — juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Don’t miss out on those. And if you’re into cocktails , they’ve got a top-notch selection that pairs beautifully with the dishes. A great spot for a relaxed night out or a special treat. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Came for the burger. Which to be honest is a bit on the pricey side but it's a pretty famous burger. The dill pickle brine is everything. The burger is pretty good, cooked to a perfect med-rare. The fries were delicious...similar to McD's. The staff was great and the atmosphere was fantastic. It's a classy pub/bar field but not overly crowded or loud.

First, let me say what you have heard or read about the OG burger is true. It is a perfectly balanced sandwich that is singing songs of joy to your tongue! The concierge and server were both extremely friendly, polite and helpful. The atmosphere made you feel like you we're in an invite only location. Like you found a hidden a gem in The City that no one knew about. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience! I posted a picture of one of the incredible hors d'oeuvres We shared.

At long last, I finally got to cross the Loyalist off my list! I’ve had so many people put this as a top Chicago burger spot for a long time, and now that Chicago has become such a burger hub, it seems like this place is slept on. I thought the burger was fantastic! It’s a nice change up from a smash burger, with a thicker patty that’s cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was incredibly juicy but held together well, great sauce and cheese, I could’ve definitely eaten two of them. Highly recommend starting off with the Gougeres and the anchovy toast. They also have a great tartare, your burger will come with fries but the dauphine potatoes are great to share with the table. We split their secret menu cheeseburger and I thought it was just okay, they make a special ketchup and it wasn’t for me. Will have to come back and try the French smashburger. This is an iconic Chicago spot in a great area in west loop, this is definitely worth a stop in!
